Specimen Required
10 mL tube used for adult patients.
1.5 mL tube used for patients under the age of 12
Specimen other than blood: See order Acid Fast Blood culture (CXAFB/1424/LAB877))
PROCESSING INSTRUCTIONS
INPATIENT: BRING DIRECTLY TO LABORATORY, WITHOUT DELAY.
OUTPATIENT: STORE AT ROOM TEMPERATURE
LABORATORY INSTUCTION: PLACE SPECIMENS IN MICROBIOLOGY BUCKET IN CENTRAL PROCESSING AT ROOM TEMPERATURE
METHOD
DNA probe, culture, fluorescent stain
Isolation and sensitivity performed when positive for M. tuberculosis.
NTM sensitivity done by special request only. Call Sparrow Microbiology at 517-364-2543 and ask for Charge Microbiologist.
